BIM-Alert/CICS

BIM-ALERT/CICS provides complete security for CICS/VSE and CICS/TS. Without changing any of your current programs you can secure maps, files, programs and transactions. ALERT also provides access security for fields within records. And BIM-ALERT/CICS is written specifically for the CICS/VSE environment, so resource usage is low.

Ease of Use

ALERT facilities are easy to use, even for non-technical personnel. No need to write programs, change JCL or learn a "rules" language.

ALERT provides online, menu driven screens for defining security at all levels. You can easily customize security profiles for each user. ALERT also provides transactions to display unsecured files, programs and transactions. This makes it easy to identify protected and non-protected resources.

Some additional features of ALERT include:

• A modeling facility so that you can model a new user or terminal after one that was previously defined
• The ability to update and implement security changes in real time
• Forced password change and automatic password distribution after a time period that you determine
• Capabilities for decentralized security administration
• A user-callable interface for defining security for non-CICS resources
• The ability to customize violation messages and display them in different languages

Efficient Design

What's more, ALERT requires a minimum of memory and DASD, and was written with attention to minimizing the number of security checking cycles. Your system will not be bogged down by ALERT's security, so your users won't be slowed down either.

Increased Security

ALERT offers increased CICS security through system, user and terminal resource security.

System Resource Security

All maps, files, programs, and transactions to be protected should be defined to ALERT as system resources.
ALERT offers two ways for you to restrict access to system resources:
• One way is to restrict access times for files, programs and transactions.
• A second way is to specify either inquiry-only or inquiry-and-update processing for files.

User ID Resource Security

Users who are required to sign on are defined by ALERT as user ID resources. Each user ID resource must have a security profile defined to ALERT. The security profile identifies which files, programs, transactions and map displays each user has the authority to access. The system administrator can determine the user's default authority, which ALERT uses if no files, programs or transactions are specifically defined. User ID security lets you use ALERT to:
• Limit access to resources based on the user's ID.
• Automatically sign off users and erase screens that are inactive for a specific period of time.
• Define both scheduled and temporary access times--ALERT will deny any attempt to access the system outside of the user's defined access times.

Terminal Resource Security

Use ALERT's terminal security to protect any 3270-type terminal recognized by CICS:
• Limit access to resources based on the terminal's ID without requiring user sign on.
• Automatically sign off terminals and erase screens that are inactive for a specific period of time.
• Define both scheduled and temporary access times. ALERT will deny any attempt to access the system outside of the terminal's defined access times.
• Report access violations to a specific terminal and printer.

Increased Auditability

ALERT provides complete online and batch reports for monitoring system activity and attempted security violations. You can display these violations online, instantly receiving a chronological log of activity for the specified users or terminals.
In addition, ALERT maintains a complete audit trail of security activity, which you can also view online. This audit trail indicates the date, time, administrator identification, and before-and-after image of any change to any security profiles.

Report Writer

With ALERT, you get a full report writer to produce user definable reports from the log, audit and security files. You describe what data you want and what format you want it in. Several predefined reports are also available, including:
• Violation and sign on specification
• System transaction security
• System program security
• System file security
• System map security
• User security information
• Terminal security information
